Founded in July 1989, The Metzner Group, LLC is a specialized executive search firm dedicated to recruiting top-tier leadership in architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and planning. Our clients include public and private companies, private equity firms, and growth and venture investors.

Our History
The company began as an executive search firm dedicated to the professional services market. Over the last three decades, we’ve grown into one of the most respected search firms with an extensive portfolio of employers and job seekers. Our relationships with industry-specific business and human resources experts helped to expand our services to include board of director appointments, succession planning, and industry and competitor intelligence. We also serve in an introductory role for mergers and acquisitions.

Our President

Carol A. Metzner

In July of 1989, Ms. Carol A. Metzner, founded The Metzner Group, LLC. There existed a need for a recruiting specialist who understood the specific and unique culture of multidisciplinary Architecture, Engineering and Planning firms.


Prior to the formation of The Metzner Group, Ms. Metzner was employed by an ENR top 500 firm. In her role as Manager of Employment, the company grew from 750 employees to 1200 employees over 18 offices nationwide. She played a critical role in the identification and recruitment of senior talent to help in their expansion.


Ms. Metzner has been successful in closing placements under unique and unusual circumstances. Her professional expertise includes efficient management of multi-search engagement retainers and high profile positions at the senior executive level. She has the ability to understand corporate culture, structure, and management style; a critical attribute when assessing her client’s needs.


Her professional style has lent itself to developing long-term relationships with both clients and candidates. The personalized service for which she has become known throughout the A/E/P industry has resulted in the development of multi-search accounts. Her clients return for the capable and confidential services she provides. Based upon her reputation, Ms. Metzner has served as an industry expert for numerous publications and industry associations.
